General Dentistry
Did you know that good oral health can have an enormously positive impact on your overall health? It's true. Since your mouth is the portal to your body, bacteria and disease that occur in your mouth easily spread and can affect your wellbeing. Consistent checkups, cleanings, and home hygiene should be an important part of your family's overall preventive care routine, right up there with a healthy diet and exercise.
While we offer diverse services that can restore and refresh your smile, consistent general and preventive care provides the foundation on which all other treatment is based. Dr. Supreet Dhillon is an experienced general dentist who believes that regular at-home and in-office dental care is the key to lasting oral health. At Highland Dental Clinic, we love serving patients of any age, so consider us your entire family's home for comprehensive dentistry.

Checkups and Cleanings
The Canadian Dental Association recommends you see your dentist at least twice each year for a checkup and/or hygiene appointment. At your checkup, we will inspect your soft tissues for oral cancer, periodontal disease, and other problems. Dr. Dhillon will also look at each tooth in your mouth to assess problems like tooth decay or cracks, as well as old dental work. Sometimes old dental work wears out and needs to be replaced. We will be happy to replace metal fillings, inlays, onlays, and crowns with tooth-colored alternatives.
By looking for trouble every six months, we can often reduce your potential for large dental problems. For instance, left untreated, a small cavity can grow to destroy an entire tooth and spread to surrounding teeth. A cracked tooth can cause pain or break off and create additional problems. Furthermore, advanced gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults, and oral cancer causes more than 7,500 deaths each year. Caught and treated early, these diseases can be controlled. Children as young as two should visit the dentist, and by age four or five, a child should attend regular checkups.
Composite Fillings
Composite fillings are often referred to as tooth-colored fillings, since they are tinted to match the exact color of a patient's tooth structure. New materials allow us to create virtually undetectable composite restorations that give the appearance, strength and function of an intact, natural tooth. Unlike metal fillings, composites are actually bonded or cemented into the tooth which provides superior strength and longevity. They also contain no harmful metals such as the mercury found in amalgam fillings.
Gum Disease Therapy
Up to 80 percent of the population unknowingly has some form of gum disease. Characterized by a persistent bacterial infection surrounding one tooth or several teeth, gum disease causes little discomfort and produces few obvious symptoms in the early stages. When periodontal disease is not treated, it will spread and compromise gums, teeth, bone, and it can lead to heart disease and strokes, as well as diabetes and pregnancy complications
Early on, when redness, swelling, and bleeding are the only symptoms, we can treat and reverse gum disease non-surgically. Regular checkups greatly increase your potential for early detection and conservative treatment. Generally, treatment will include careful, individualized instruction regarding the most effective means of brushing and flossing at home. This strategy is sometimes accompanied by professional scaling or careful scraping of all affected tooth surfaces, gum pocket irrigation, and even local antibiotic placement in areas of significant irritation. Often, patients experience immediate improvement. If, however, symptoms don't improve significantly, you may require surgical treatment
